About

The Third Mark is a cultivation reference built around one habit: mark the edge of the patch, check it in twelve hours, and let the result settle the argument.

This page needs your voice, not mine.

Replace the bracketed sections below. The site's credibility rests on a named person having actually grown things, and that claim can only come from you.

Who writes this

[Your name, and how you got into growing. Two or three sentences is plenty. If you have been at it a year, say a year — the audience is better at detecting inflation than most.]

What has actually been grown here

[List the species you have personally grown, and roughly how many runs. This is the single most useful paragraph on the page. Anything you haven't grown gets labelled as such on its own page.]

The setup

[What you actually grow in. Tub sizes, whether you use a flow hood or a still air box, what pressure cooker, what substrate you default to. Specifics here make everything else more believable.]

How this site is written

Numbers, not adjectives

"Colonises in 10–14 days at 75°F" is useful. "Colonises quickly" is not. Where a page can't be specific, it says so rather than reaching for a vague word.

Untested is labelled untested

Pages covering species or techniques that haven't been run here say so directly. Confident secondhand instruction is worse than an honest gap, and this audience can tell the difference.

Failures get photographed

Contamination photographs are the most useful thing a site like this can offer, and stock images are obvious to anyone who has seen the real thing. Every failed tub gets photographed before it goes out.

No health claims

Functional species pages describe traditional use and cite research. They do not state that a mushroom treats, prevents, or cures anything — because it is not established, and because making that claim while selling a product is a specific and well-enforced kind of illegal. See what the research actually says.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, it should be fixed rather than defended. [Add your contact address.] Corrections that change a page's substance get noted at the bottom of that page with a date.

The shop

There is a storefront at shop.thethirdmark.com selling supplies and kits. Product links on this site are contextual and in-body — no banners, no popups, no interstitials. The rule is that the content has to be worth reading whether or not you ever buy anything, and a link only goes in where there is an honest reason for it.
